Computer education has made rapid strides and the school has impressive computer department equipped with the best computers and computer peripherals. All the students from class one upwards have computer education as an integral part of the curriculum. The department has a team of professionally qualified teaching staff and is in the process of providing training to all its subject teachers to become computer literate, so as to introduce computer- aided learning in all subjects.
The Maths Club has been introduced with the aim of making Mathematics fun for students as well as to develop their logical and reasoning abilities and the use of structures and numbers in the field of designing. It aims through various activities to help students grasp mathematical concepts better. The club aims to strengthen academic interest in the field of Maths. Outcomes from this club are also ploughed back into the school Maths laboratory.
In the biology lab, the students are tested their theoretical knowledge practically for its validity or truthfulness. In the laboratory, students are given opportunity to learn by performing practicals. Students cannot do or learn without a laboratory.
Before starting the practical, students are given the knowledge of compound microscope i.e. parts of microscope and their uses and how to handle the microscope. Students are made to observe the ways of handling the glasswares and chemicals etc. Students are instructed to perform the same experiment after the teacher’s demonstration.
Practical work is the most important factor in the study of science. The laboratory is the place do experiments, tests, investigations etc. It is in the laboratory that physics students learn to practice the activities of scientists — asking questions, performing procedures, collecting data, analyzing data, answering questions, and thinking of new questions to explore.
St. Xavier International School Patiala have a well furnished Physics lab, well equipped with optical, electrical and mechanical instruments like optical bench, spherical lenses and mirrors, glass slab, prism, metre bridge, potentiometer, resistance box, galvanometer, voltmeter, ammeter, milliammeter, rheostat, inclined plane, travelling microscope, vernier calliper, screw gauge, calorimeter, sonometer, tuning fork, searle’s apparatus etc. that are necessary enough to impart practical knowledge to the students and help them to understand the importance of Physics and its application in day to day life. Physics lab has all the interesting sets of equipment to reinforce scientific and experimental concepts and facilitate in developing investigative skills. There are models, charts and experimental gadgets to cater the needs of students. In the physics lab, students verify a given law which has been derived from a theory. Students are given exposure to practicals as well as project making.
A chemist bases his thinking on experiments. The task of chemistry is to develop and provide experimental methods of determining the chemical composition of substances. The School has well equipped laboratory for Chemistry. Students are encouraged to use chemistry lab to learn through experiments. . Students are made to use the models and understand different scientific theories and concepts.
Every year latest instruments and required apparatus and chemicals are purchased for the lab.
The lab is provided with an almirah and a number of drawers for storing various equipments. It also has a black board and a required number of sinks
